Mar 9, 2014 · I have a 1985 John Deere 850 Diesel Tractor that won't start. The battery is new & fully charged. Dash lights come on, gearshift, hi/lo, pto are all out of gear. Parking brake set, clutch fully depressed. Seat switch has been bypassed. . Cfande railroad

A half hour later I went to start it up but all it would do is crank over but it would not start. I have plenty of gas and I bled the fuel system by loosening the bolt that my owners manual said to loosen and cranked over the engine to make sure there was no air in the system. If your John Deere diesel tractor fails to start, maybe the quality of the fuel is poor. If the fuel overstays in the tank, residue may settle at the bottom which affects its quality. Empty the fuel completely and clear the residue from the tank. In the future, it’s recommended to use fuel brands with an additive to prevent this problem.
